The Alpine Brass Festival took place at Bright in the heart of Victoria's beautiful alpine region on 15th May.
We had a very successful day with five bands playing in the inaugural Alpine Brass Festival at the Bright Entertainment Centre. Dandenong, Creswick, Wodonga, Glenferrie and Hyde St Bands all took part in the festival.
In a break with tradition the chief adjudicator declared the results before the first band had played with Wodonga Band winning convincingly on a technicality.
Chief Adjudicator Michael O'Sullivan said "It was obvious to me before we started which band was the best so I decided to save time and award first prize to Wodonga right at the start".
When challenged that, as a member of Wodonga band, he may have a conflict of interest, he said "That has nothing to do with it, I am completely impartial."
A number of formal protests were lodged during day however the adjudication panel dismissed them all saying "the protests are completely without merit; the adjudicators decision is final".
We are looking forward to a repeat of this event next year
