This series of Master Classes is open to musicians of all ages and abilities (brass, percussion, voice and theatre). We highly recommend VCE music students who are preparing for their final exams participate. This is an invaluable opportunity to learn from and get advice from some of the best musicians in Australia and overseas.

Master Class Format

 Due to COVID 19 restrictions the classes will be conducted over Zoom. The Zoom app can be found at zoom.us. A Zoom invitation will be sent to you for all the classes for which you nominate. The classes will include:

  • demonstrations of various advanced techniques by our tutors;
  • Assessment of and advice on your own playing;
  • Questions and answers.

 You can nominate for as many of the Master Classes as you wish, even if you are not studying in that area. Classes are available for all brass instruments, percussion plus vocal and theatre studies.

Wiggle & Shake - percussion for toddlers with Katie Thomas

Dance, sing, wiggle & shake your way through isolation with Katie in this fun and engaging class. Develop toddlers rhythm, movement and coordination.

Percussion in Iso - for beginners (all ages) with Katie Thomas

This isolation workshop is perfect for beginner percussionists of any age to discover the world of sound in their very own home. Learn to make and create percussion instruments, and turn them into music.

Advanced Mallet - with Leon Duncan

Focusing on mallets up to AMEB Grades 6, VCE music and the 4-Mallet technique. 

Advanced Snare/Drum Kit - Technique Development with Jordan Kiely

Learn the fundamental mechanics of playing and ways to develop hand technique for playing snare drum and drum kit. Jordan will break down the techniques and rudiments required to play Solo #4 from his VCE prescribed book, "Advanced Snare Drum Solos". (sheet music materials will be provided).


Brass

All ages beginner brass - with Phillipa Edwards

Young people and adults alike can learn the basics of playing a brass instrument. No experience necessary.

Intermediate Brass Fun - with Jamie Lawson

Already play a brass instrument?  Get more out of your playing with this intermediate class suitable for players up to AMEB Grade 4. 

Advanced Trumpet/Cornet - with Jamie Lawson

Learn advanced trumpet and cornet techniques. Suitable for VCE and university music students. 

Advanced Horn - with Abbey Edlin

Learn advanced Horn techniques. Suitable for VCE and university music students.

Advanced Euphonium - with Luke Spence

Learn advanced euphonium techniques. Suitable for VCE and university music students.

Advanced Trombone - with Jessica Buzbee

Learn advanced trombone techniques. Suitable for VCE and university music students. 

"Plumbing the Depths" - Bass Trombone with Richard Shirley

 Conversations in lower range playing for tenor and bass trombone. 

"To Buzz or not to Buzz..and how to Buzz, that is the question!"-Tim Buzbee
